I originally posted this twice to /r/Market76 but sadly the auto-moderator there is far too rigid. So here it is.
Hello everyone. Trading is nice. Trading is cool. BUT, some of you are doing it wrong. So with the Reddit sub /r/Market76 in mind (and to a lesser extent Discord) here are some things you might want to do to make trading pleasant for everyone concerned:
- Supply your IGN (In Game Name). If you don’t want to supply this fine but then people will shout “SHENANIGANS”.
- Mark your timezone and what your playing hours are. We’re not all in the USA.
- If you are logging off 15 minutes after posting then please let us know. A bargain is a bargain but waiting around just to discover that you left for work/school/a kibbutz/ the moon isn’t much fun.
- If selling from machines, PUT A STASH BOX NEXT TO THEM for Atom’s sake please! I just bought a lot of junk from you, don’t make me wander around the Wasteland like a balloon waiting to pop.
- Also in your CAMP if you have machines DON’T FORCE ME TO DECONTAM. I have mutations and I like them. Yes Power Armor will sidestep this, yes Starched Genes will also help. But that’s another hoop to jump through and a big chance (100% in my case) of a lost customer.
- Nope out of any trade you don’t like. No-one is forcing you to make a trade. ~~If in doubt ask Mummy~~
- Respond in a timely manner. If you can’t be somewhere let your trading partner know. They will probably understand. If you have a disability or condition which slows down your communication just let people know and they will be totally fine with it once informed. Otherwise it just seems like you’re chatting to friends or playing and ignoring a message. In text there is no vocal acknowledgement. A few letters and a click on send “OK, NP, OMW” is the equivalent of that.
- If your response to an offer is “no” say so right away. If flexible, give a counter-offer.
- Negotiate in the post. This is a /r/market76 subreddit rule but is somewhat laxly enforced. It’s just courtesy, especially when an auction spontaneously breaks out. “I have a better offer on Discord” is not a valid counter offer…
- Know basic prices. The most commonly traded stuff is junk and ammo. Here is my fair price guide for the former: https://fallout.travel.blog/2019/07/19/fallout-76-trading-price-guide-v-0-1-junk/ it will be updated this week.
- To reiterate: no-one is telling you a price you SHOULD sell for. Especially not me. We can only give you market averages and ranges.
- If you have a lot of stuff consider making several posts, time staggered. It’s no fun for you to be juggling 4 trades and pissing 3 (possibly 4) of these people off.
- People doing 2 for 1 swaps are not swindlers. They have something you want, you do not have to accept. They are not a charity.
- People selling high are either not too keen to sell, don’t know the price, don’t really want to sell except for a highball offer or simply don’t know a market value for the item.
- Oh lastly, if you think you can “get better at the vendor bot” do it. If you have all CHR perks, Grape Mentats and haven’t exceeded the 1,400 cap daily limit then go ahead. Bulk that shit and sell it. Human traders have no daily limit π This was tried on me and prompted me to make my junk price guide.
Have fun out there. It is a game after all.
